At T-Mobile, diversity is a core part of the company’s values. T-Mobile believes that people with disabilities bring a different and unique perspective to the workplace. This helps to make the company that much stronger. Their diversity program doesn’t target one group; it includes all diverse groups. To help include all groups in their hiring process, the company has adopted a four-step reference guide from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. The steps include:
- Recruiting People with Disabilities;
- Interviewing and Hiring People with Disabilities;
- Helping Your Employees Achieve Workplace Success; and
- Retaining Valued Employees
T-Mobile believes in a diverse and inclusive work environment and works hard to make sure employees adopt these values. At their annual “Values Day,” the entire company talks about diversity, inclusion and other values that are adopted by employees. When an employee is hired, the T-Mobile values are introduced to the employee. During their review, employees are evaluated on how well they demonstrate the company values throughout the year.
One of the most important ways to make sure every aspect of the company is inclusive is to make sure there is leadership buy-in. Having the top-level support helps to make sure inclusion programs are implemented.
T-Mobile has also implemented a diversity council to make sure all groups are represented in the company. The group is comprised of diversity ambassadors. The company conducts focus groups and surveys to make sure the diversity ambassadors are being listened to.
